You've Been Warned, America: The Risks of a Democratic Takeover

Over the past several weeks, prominent conservative radio and TV personalities have warned America what would happen in the event that the Democrats retake control of the House of Representatives.  Let’s take a look at some of their warnings, what they got right, and what they may have left out.

No one has beaten the drum harder than Sean Hannity,  who has spent the  past several months warning the viewers of his television show about the Democrats’ plans of action should they retake the House of Representatives.  Item number one on their agenda: rescind the tax cuts. As Hannity would say, “they want their crumbs back.” That’s a reference to House Minority Leader and potential House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slamming the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act as a giveaway to the wealthy with mere “crumbs” for the middle class.

While the Democratic leadership has attempted to put muzzles on the most outspoken members of their party, it has become quite clear that the Democratic base desperately wants to impeach President Trump. Hannity warns that impeachment will become a reality if Democrats take the House, although it seems unlikely that impeachment will result in the left’s fever dream of President Trump’s removal from office, since that would require the support of two-thirds of the Senate, as opposed to the House, where it takes only a bare majority to launch impeachment hearings.  While a few Republican Senators may have little love for President Trump, it seems unlikely that enough would go along with the impeachment scheme for President Trump’s ouster from office to actually come to fruition.

The third item on Hannity’s list, the Democrats have largely succeeded at doing, keeping Obamacare.  While the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has eliminated the unpopular individual mandate of the healthcare law, Senate Republicans failed to unite around a “repeal and replace” plan despite the fact that they had spent the previous seven years promising to repeal Obamacare the second they took control of the House, the Senate, and the White House.

The Democrats almost succeeded at the fourth item on Hannity’s list, keeping President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee off the bench.  This would really only apply if the Democrats take the Senate, since the House plays no role in confirming Supreme Court Justices and other cabinet officials.  Fortunately, President Trump has had quite a bit of success in remaking the judicial branch by appointing 120 Federal judges to the lower courts.  For that, the Democrats can thank none other than their former Senate Leader Harry Reid, who abolished the filibuster for lower court nominees in 2013; ; allowing the confirmation of judges with a simple majority.

The fifth item on Hannity’s list should go without saying, throw open the borders. As working class Americans that once formed the backbone of the Democratic Party continue to leave the party in droves as a result of its drift towards socialism and cultural Marxism, the Democrats need to find new voters to replace them.  According to Ann Coulter, the Democrats have determined that “only a massive influx of criminals, welfare recipients and perpetual protesters can save them,” which explains why they view “building a wall across the Mexican border” as a “violation of the Voting Rights Act.”

The sixth item on Hannity’s list: kill off the deep state investigations surrounding the events that led to the launching of the Mueller probe. The Democrats will quickly replace these investigations with probes into every matter of President Trump’s personal and professional life that will make a prostate exam seem uninvasive.

Laura Ingraham took a different approach in her warning to America, which she delivered on her show last week in a monologue called “Meet the Chairmen,” a play on the title of the 2004 film “Meet the Fockers,” featuring an ensemble cast of ultra-liberals including the very outspoken Barbra Streisand and Robert De Niro.  In her monologue, Ingraham gave the audience a list of the likely chairmen (and women) of several key House Committees in the events that Democrats take control of the House of Representatives.  Many of these committees will have new chairs even if Republicans do manage to keep the House, as five of the seven current chairs of the Committees discussed by Ingraham have opted not to run for re-election.

She began with the House Finance Committee, currently chaired by retiring Republican Jeb Hensarling.  Should the Democrats win the House, Congresswoman Maxine Waters will likely take the position of Chair.  Waters has established herself as a relentless advocate for impeachment and uncivil discourse, encouraging left-wing activists to confront Trump administration officials in public and make it clear that “they’re not welcome anywhere anymore.”

The leadership of the House Judiciary Committee currently consists of retiring Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Ranking Member Jerry Nadler.  Nadler, who represents Manhattan, has vowed to investigate newly minted Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Ingraham made sure to point that out; warning of a “Kavanaugh Circus: Part III.”

The leadership of the House Ways and Means Committee consists of Republican Kevin Brady and Ranking Member Richard Neal.  Ingraham warned that should Neal become Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, he would rescind the tax cuts dismissed by Nancy Pelosi as “crumbs.”

Ingraham then turned to the House Oversight Committee, currently chaired by retiring Republican Trey Gowdy.  She pointed out that Ranking Member Elijah Cummings, who would likely become chair in the event of a Democratic takeover of the House, has promised to “investigate the Trump administration seven ways to Sunday.”

Ingraham continued: “If Peter De Fazio becomes the Transportation Committee Chairman, he’s planning to do ‘oversight’ of the Trump International Hotel and the Government Services Administration, which is the agency that gave Trump a lease for the old post office building in DC.”  De Fazio, the only potential Committee Chair listed in this article who represents a swing district, clearly has a pulse on the voters of his district; who lie awake at night obsessing about Trump properties.

Ingraham next brought up the Appropriations Committee, currently chaired by retiring Republican Rodney Frelinghuysen.  Ingraham mentioned that Congresswoman Nita Lowey, Frelinghuysen’s likely successor if the Democrats take over the House, has “never met a liberal social program she didn’t like.” Ingraham warned that with Lowey in charge: “And the wall, it will be never be funded.”

Last and certainly not least, Adam Schiff, also known as “Woody from Toy Story,” would become the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Schiff has marched to the Russian collusion drumbeat since before President Trump even took office.  Ingraham played a clip of Michelle Goldberg of The New York Times fantasizing about how “Adam Schiff could restart the Russia investigation” and “the House Ways and Means Committee will be able to obtain Trump’s tax returns.” It seems like Goldberg and her fellow liberals really have a keen understanding of the issues concerning Americans.

Ingraham concluded her monologue by warning that “if this band of liberal misfits and radicals takes the reins of power in the House come November, it will be scarier than Halloween, only the trick will be on the American people and the treats, they’ll be given away to someone else.”

Liberal Richard Goodstein reacted to Ingraham’s monologue by accusing her of trying to scare people and appeal to racism by showing them “all these black faces” who will become Committee Chairs should the Democrats retake the House, specifically referring to Maxine Waters. Ingraham strenuously objected to his analysis, by naming some of the white people she discussed in her monologue: “Adam Schiff, Nita Lowey, (and) Neal from Massachusetts.” Maybe it did not occur to Goodstein that Ingraham might have put up pictures of the potential Committee chairs to highlight the content of their character, not to scare people based on the color of their skin.

On the final installment of “The Ben Shapiro Election Special,” Ben Shapiro gave the audience ten reasons to vote Republican in the fall.  Shapiro warned that “if the Democrats win the House and the Senate in 2018, conservatives should be prepared for an all-out assault on their values.” Many of Shapiro’s reasons overlapped with Hannity’s warnings about, with the Courts ranking at the top of the list.  Shapiro warned that if the Democrats take control of the Senate, “they will hold open every single judicial seat, hoping a Democrat takes the White House in 2020.”  Shapiro also warned about investigations and impeachment, also brought up by Hannity.

Shapiro outlined how a Democratic takeover would affect the economy, which he described as “President Trump’s selling point in his re-election effort.”  According to Shapiro, “Democrats are committed to stifling economic growth if it means stopping President Trump.”  Just remember that Bill Maher described a recession as “one way you get rid of Trump.” While his loyal followers describe him as a comedian, Maher’s cheers for a recession hardly seemed like a joke.

Shapiro warned that foreign policy hangs in the balance; if Democrats take control, they would work to reduce defense spending, “signaling to the world that President Obama’s weak-kneed foreign policy is back.”  He also said that if Democrats retake the House, they will work to relaunch culture wars dividing Americans by class, race and gender in “new and frightening ways.” Speaking of culture wars, Shapiro warned that attacks on religious liberty would become the new normal in a Democratic-controlled Congress; giving the SJWs gavels would lead to the attempted passage of “so-called anti-discrimination laws, directed at religious businesses, churches and schools.”

According to Shapiro, the “twisting of social media” will only get worse with Democrats in charge, as will threaten to launch investigations into the social media giants if they don’t shut down “offensive” content.  Liberals’ definition of “offensive” content apparently does not include anything written by Louis Farrakhan.

A radical growth of “the Democrat-Media Complex” will accompany a Democratic Congress, when “the media’s never-ending firehouse of anti-conservative propaganda will merely widen the nozzle.” Last, but certainly not least, Shapiro predicted that the Democrats will double down on “mob rule” if they take control of the House in 2018, hoping it “carries them to victory in 2020.”

Well, you can’t say that three of the most influential voices in the conservative movement did not try and warn what would happen if Americans carelessly allow the Democrats back into power. Perhaps Shapiro summed it up best when he said “Get out there on Election Day and ensure that the Democratic Party of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton aren’t allowed anywhere near the levers of power.”
