New York Values

During one of the many Republican debates leading up to the 2016 Presidential Election, then-candidate Trump and Senator Ted Cruz sparred over the meaning of the phrase “ New York values.”   Cruz attempted to contrast the views of the folks in New York City with the views of Americans in the rest of the country: “everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal, are pro-abortion are pro-gay marriage, focused around money and the media.”   Trump refuted Cruz’s claim by bringing up the city’s response to the 9/11 attacks.   Long before I began publishing my work on the internet, I experimented with writing some pieces.   I developed a framework for an article called “ New York : A Slant to the Left,” which would have highlighted the state’s extremely liberal politicians as well as the state’s continued march to the left in Presidential elections.   I began writing this article before the 2016 election.   I would have note...

Top 4 Lessons of 2018

With 2018 almost completely in the rearview mirror, the first full year of the Trump Presidency has provided Republicans with many lessons that they ultimately learned the hard way.  1. The Moderate Democrat has gone extinct.  When it comes to building a wall on the southern border with Mexico , nearly  100 percent of Democrats in both Houses of Congress find themselves siding with big business; something that yesterday’s Democrats, who thought the party represented the interests of the working class, would find unimaginable.  While several Senate Democrats pitched themselves as moderates as they fought uphill battles attempting to win re-election in ruby red states, their voting record tells a different story.  Only one Senate Democrat , Doug Jones of Alabama , voted to end debate on a House-passed stopgap spending bill that included money for the wall. Joe Manchin of West Virginia , who ran an ad highlighting his support for the wall...

You've Been Warned, America: The Risks of a Democratic Takeover

Image
Over the past several weeks, prominent conservative radio and TV personalities have warned America what would happen in the event that the Democrats retake control of the House of Representatives.   Let’s take a look at some of their warnings, what they got right, and what they may have left out. No one has beaten the drum harder than Sean Hannity,   who has spent the   past several months warning the viewers of his television show about the Democrats’ plans of action should they retake the House of Representatives.   Item number one on their agenda: rescind the tax cuts. As Hannity would say, “they want their crumbs back.” That’s a reference to House Minority Leader and potential House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slamming the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act as a giveaway to the wealthy with mere “crumbs” for the middle class. While the Democratic leadership has attempted to put muzzles on the most outspoken members of their party, it has become quite clear that the ...

Note to the Left on Descriptive Representation: Practice What You Preach

Many in the media and on the left obsess over descriptive representation, the idea that the demographics of Congress should closely mirror the demographics of American society; specifically focusing on race and gender.   According to descriptive representation, Congress should have a much higher proportion of African-Americans, Hispanics and women and a much lower proportion of men and lawyers.   No politician has taken the idea of descriptive representation to the extreme more than left-wing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who sought a 50-50 balance of men and women when putting his cabinet together.      The Democrats will certainly tout the “diversity” of their candidates as they seek to take control of both houses of Congress.   The Democrats and the media have already obsessed over the large number of female Democratic candidates that they think will ride a “pink wave” accompanying the “blue wave” that will sweep the Democrats back into po...

Bigots on the Ballot: Democratic Party Edition

Rolling Stone recently published an article titled “The Hateful Eight: Meet the Biggest Bigots on the Ballot in 2018,” attempting to make the point that bigotry and prejudice has captured the Republican Party by highlighting Republican candidates running in House and Senate seats that the author deems bigots.   While some of the accusations of bigotry have merit, author Tessa Stuart fails to make it clear that many of these candidates pose no threat to American democracy, considering the fact that they have absolutely no chance to win their elections.   Stuart classifies the following Congressional candidates as bigots: Arizona Senate candidate and Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Republican nominee for California’s 11 th Congressional District John Fitzgerald, Republican nominee for New Jersey’s 2 nd Congressional District Seth Grossman, Republican nominee for Illinois’s 3 rd Congressional District Arthur Jones, Republican nominee for North Carolina’s no...
