The Not-So-Fantastic Mrs. Foxx

Overall, this past week definitely ended up as one of the best of the Trump administration.  First, the Mueller report concluded that the President did not collude with the Russians in an effort to secure victory in the 2016 Presidential Election.  Then, the House of Representatives failed overwhelmingly in its effort to override President Trump’s veto of Congress’s disapproval of his National Emergency.  However, another event that took place this week did far more than just rain on the President’s parade; it reinforced a narrative that wealth, connections, and victimhood can effectively enable some people to break the law without facing any consequences. Two months ago, actor Jussie Smollett alleged that two men in #MAGA hats committed a hate crime against him on one of the coldest days of the year in one of the most Democratic neighborhoods in the country.  Smollett, who scores quite high in the intersectionality Olympics as a black gay man, alleged that the two...

Anti-American Extremists Take Off Their Masks

This week, anti-American extremists took off their masks.   Well, at least some of them did. The week began with some demonstrations by some anti-American extremists, many of whom did not take off their masks.   This group of activists describes itself as “anti-fascists” or “antifa” despite the fact that many of their tactics resemble those of “actual fascists.”   Antifa had gathered in Washington , D.C. and Charlottesville over the weekend to mark the one year anniversary of the “Unite the Right” rally spearheaded by white supremacists that took place in Charlottesville , Virginia .   This year, a second “Unite the Right” rally took place in Lafayette Square in front of the White House.   The media hyped the one-year anniversary, which ultimately did not their expectations.   Instead of the gathering of scores of white supremacists they had imagined, only twenty white supremacists showed up in Lafayette Square . However, a lot more members o...

The Ex-Presidents' Club

Yesterday marked the eighteen-month anniversary of the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States, which means that President Obama has now held the title of Former President for a year and a half.   As President Trump wrapped up his trip in Europe, Former President Obama took a trip to Africa, which included his first trip to his father’s home country of Kenya since he left office.   He spoke in South Africa Tuesday in honor of Former South African President Nelson Mandela’s 100 th Birthday.   During the speech, he took quite a few veiled shots at President Trump.   President Obama echoed the left-wing talking point that President Trump has dictatorial tendencies, complaining that “strongman politics are ascendant suddenly.”   Laura Ingraham pointed out that “Trump was elected in part because many Americans were fed up with the ‘weak-man’ leadership of Barack Obama.” President Obama railed against the horrors of “closed bor...

The Politicization of Everything

Earlier this month, Miss America announced that it would no longer hold swimsuit competitions or evening gown beginning with this year’s competition; which will take place on September 9 in Atlantic City .   Instead, the contestants will walk on stage in clothing that “makes them feel confident, expresses their personal style, and shows how they hope to advance the role of Miss America .”   The plan to scrub the swimsuit competition would obviously fail if all of the women agreed that bikinis “make them feel confident.” The contestants will participate in a back-and-forth with the judges focusing on highlighting “her achievements and goals in life and how she will use her talents, passion, and ambition to perform the role of Miss America .”   If people wanted to watch a Talent show, they would tune into “ America ’s Got Talent” or the “X-Factor.”   The free market will ultimately decide the fate of Miss America .   Those who hope to see beautiful wome...

The Countdown to 2020 Begins

500 days into the Trump Presidency and just five months away from the 2018 midterm elections, much chatter has already begun about the 2020 Presidential Election.   It may seem too early to start talking about 2020, but it really isn’t.   The first Candidate to announce his run for President in 2016, Senator Ted Cruz, announced his White House bid on March 23, 2015.   Should the first major 2020 Presidential candidate announce his or her White House run on March 23, 2019; that’s just nine months away. Believe it or not, one candidate has already announced his decision to run for President as a Democrat in 2020.   Rep. John Delaney, who only won his seat because of intense gerrymandering by the Maryland State legislature, has decided to forego re-election in favor of a White House bid .         Incumbent Presidents usually don’t have to worry about primaries.   Unfortunately, a few of the media’s favorite Republicans ...

Identity Politics and the 2018 Election

On Tuesday night, three more states held primary elections while Texas held runoff elections for candidates who failed to capture 50 percent of the vote in the March 6 primary.   Voters in Arkansas , Georgia , and Kentucky went to the polls for the first time this election cycle on Tuesday night.   All three states voted for President Trump and none of the three states have a Senator up for re-election this year.   Only two of the states, Arkansas and Georgia , have gubernatorial races this year.   Arkansas ’s popular incumbent governor, Republican Asa Hutchinson, looks like he will sail to re-election in the fall.   While Texas does have a Senate race this year, the candidates had already been decided on March 6; when the nominees of both parties captured their nominations with an overwhelming majority of the vote, avoiding the need for a runoff. For these reasons, I decided not to do a “preview” of primary night as I have done for the past two weeks. ...
