Top 10 Closest Congressional Races

In my previous two blog posts, I have laid out the best pickup opportunities in the House of Representatives for both Republicans and Democrats.   I would like to slightly revise my list of the top 10 most likely Republican House pickups, in light of a new poll from New Jersey ’s 5 th Congressional district.   An internal poll conducted on behalf of Republican John McCann found McCann trailing incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer by nine points.   A previous internal poll for McCann showed him beating Gottheimer by three points.   Averaging out the two polls would give Gottheimer a lead of three points.   In light of this, I would rate both of the Nevada Congressional districts that I had on my list as slightly more likely pickup opportunities for Republicans and move New Jersey’s 5 th Congressional District to the tenth most likely pickup opportunity for Republicans.   President Trump has a very good approval rating in Nevada considering the fact that...

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Primary

Tuesday’s primary elections might as well be called “The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” primary.   A total of eight states will have primaries on Tuesday but only one of them will get all of the attention.   While voters in Alabama , Iowa , Mississippi , Montana , New Jersey , New Mexico , and South Dakota will all head to the polls tomorrow; all of my fellow political junkies across America will direct their eyes towards California .   The combined population of the “seven dwarf” states equals around 60 percent of California ’s population.   The results for California , which will have the biggest impact on the outcome of the midterm elections, will probably come in later than all of the “seven dwarf” states because of its location in the Pacific Time Zone.      In Alabama, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has included Alabama’s 2 nd Congressional District on their list of targets because Incumbent Republican Martha Roby on...

Tim Murphy: The Latest Entry in the Disgraced Politician Encyclopedia

Politicians never seem to learn that their bad behavior will always catch up with them.   Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) is just the latest politician to fall from grace. The nightmares for Murphy first began a month ago when his extramarital affair with a forensic psychologist half his age first became public as a result of his mistress’s divorce proceedings. The situation only got worse last week when The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published a text message Murphy’s mistress wrote to him. This particular text message reveals that the 65-year-old Congressman told his mistress to abort their unborn child during a pregnancy scare, in direct contradiction to his well-known pro-life stance on abortion. The message read, “You have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options.”   Murphy’s situation proves the point that abortion is often used to cover up immora...
