Happy Victory Day!

Today marks the 72nd anniversary of the allied powers’ victory over Japan in World War II; effectively bringing the war to an end.  On August 14, 1945, just five days after the dropping of the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan agreed to the Potsdam Declaration; which called for the unconditional surrender of Japan.  Believe it or not, Rhode Island is the only state in the union that celebrates this as a holiday. Rhode Islanders celebrate Victory Day on the second Monday of August. Victory over Japan Day used to be a Federal Holiday but The United States government stopped recognizing it in 1975 in light of the good relations that had developed between the US and the island nation.  The United States does not celebrate Victory in Europe Day, when Nazi Germany surrendered its armed forces.

While most people associate World War II with fascist dictatorships in Europe, Japan was an equally brutal adversary.  After all, their December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor is what led the United States into the war in the first place. As documented in Bill O’Reilly’s book Killing the Rising Sun, Japanese soldiers would often “mutilate the bodies of dead marines whenever they can, cutting off their penises and stuffing them into mouths yawned open by rigor mortis.”

Today, the United States considers Japan an ally; especially when you consider the “bro-mance” that has developed between President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.  Nearly three-quarters of a century after the end of World War II, America needs all the allies it can find in fighting a large group of enemies; including North Korea, Iran, and ISIS.

While on his working vacation at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, President Trump has had to deal with escalating tensions between the United States and the North Korean Dictatorship.  These escalating tensions result from the sanctions recently imposed on the hermit country; seeking to punish the regime in Pyongyang for their development of nuclear weapons.  Every member of the 15-nation UN Security Council, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the sanctions.   Kim Jong-un, the morbidly obese SOB running North Korea, has threatened to launch one of his intercontinental ballistic missiles at the United States territory of Guam; located about 2,100 miles south of North Korea.  According to the 2016 estimate from the United States Census Bureau, Guam has a population of 162,742.  The island is home to many military bases; including Andersen Air Force base.  Last week, President Trump spoke to Eddie Calvo, the Governor of Guam, and assured him that “We are with you 1000 percent.”  Calvo posted the conversation on his Facebook page.

The rogue regime had previously tested an ICBM on the Fourth of July, with Kim Jong-un calling it a “gift” to “American bastards” on our Independence Day. Many fear that these nuclear weapons may have the capability of reaching the West Coast of the United States.  Some believe that North Korea has purchased the necessary technology to shut down our electrical grid.  President Trump has warned North Korea that “they would be met with the fire and fury like the world has never seen” if they continued to threaten an attack on the United States.  Apparently growing tired of comparing him to Hitler, many Democrats and members of the mainstream media have started comparing President Trump to Kim Jong-un.  Others believe that the President’s fiery rhetoric will only embolden North Korea.  Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN), second in command at the Democratic National Committee, said that Kim Jong-un is acting more responsible than President Trump.  Good luck winning over swing voters with that message.

The situation in North Korea results from decades of foreign policy failure.  In 1994, President Clinton signed a deal with North Korea called the Agreed Framework where the United States would give the dastardly dictatorship billions of dollars in aid in exchange for the country’s promise to discontinue its development of nuclear weapons.  North Korea played us like a fiddle, continuing to develop its nuclear weapons program despite promising not to.  President Obama made an eerily similar mistake two years ago by signing the Iran Nuclear Deal.  Unlike the bilateral Agreed Framework, signatories to this deal included the other four permanent members of the United Nations, as well as Germany and the European Union.  Not surprisingly, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear monitoring agency, reports that Iran has already violated the terms of the deal.

Nearly two decades after 9/11 terror attacks that took thousands of American lives, the threat of radical Islamic terrorism still looms large over the United States.  Our premature withdrawal from Iraq led to the rise of the group ISIS; which was all too happy to fill the vacuum created by our absence.  This group of sadistic barbarians first gained international prominence when it released videotapes of the beheadings of its victims; including American journalist James Foley. The ISIS savages have more recently inflicted pain on the Western World through a series of “lone wolf” attacks. I agree with Former Vice President Joe Biden when he said “We will follow them to the gates of hell.”   Members of ISIS see themselves as religious martyrs, thinking they will receive 72 virgins in the afterlife as a reward for their fighting on behalf of Allah.  In my opinion, their afterlives will look quite different from the paradise they envision.

Contrary to what the American left wants people to believe, America is an inherently noble nation.  In the past, America has defeated Nazism and communism.  America must now put aside the fear of Islamophobia allegations and focus on defeating the dangerous ideology of radical Islamic terrorism.  I yearn for the time when we can finally celebrate a “Victory over ISIS” day. This will certainly take a lot of time and effort but the reward of an ISIS-free society will allow our children and grandchildren to live under the American flag, as opposed to the black flag of ISIS.

Even if you don’t live in Rhode Island, take a moment today to think about those who gave their lives to ensure that future generations of Americans would have the opportunity to live in a free society. Many of those who survived the War still had to suffer through PTSD.  We owe a debt of gratitude to the Greatest Generation.  In today’s incredibly self-absorbed society, we should never forget that we are the land of the free because of the brave.  Happy Victory Day!
