America Wants Unity, Media Offers Division

Due to my travelling this week, I have not watched the news as much as I normally do.  Based on what I have seen, Tropical Storm Harvey continues to dominate all of the headlines.  It looks like the media continues to embarrass itself with its abusively biased coverage.  They seem to have no desire to improve on their dismal approval ratings.

As parts of the second largest state in the Union have had to endure more than four feet of rain, the media chose to obsess over First Lady Melania Trump’s choice to wear high heels as she and the President departed The White House on Tuesday to survey the damage in Texas.  Since many TV shows focus heavily on celebrity style, you would think the media would welcome such a stylish First Lady.  Besides, I thought it was “sexist” to focus on a woman’s outfit choices.  I guess that rule only applies to liberal women.  The media attacked the First Lady again for sporting a hat with the word “FLOTUS” on it when Air Force One touched down in the Lone Star State. The media appeared less outraged at her choice to wear tennis shoes when departing Air Force One to tour the damage.  Even Kathy Griffin, one of the Trump Administration’s strongest critics, agreed that the obsession with Melania’s shoes is silly.  Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the First Lady, responded to the media critics, saying “It’s sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas and people are worried about her shoes.”  For her part, Mrs. Trump seemed focused entirely on the victims.  She released a statement where she praised the “strength and resilience of the people of Texas” as well as the “compassion and sense of community that has taken over the state.”  For all of the talk about the importance of bringing the country together, the media sure does not seem interested in doing its part.

The media has already proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it has no interest in uniting the country in times of tragedy.  Let’s not forgot that MSNBC’s Joy Reid attacked Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) for his policy positions while he sat in a hospital just days after surviving an assassination attempt. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take the media long to use Harvey as an excuse to reignite the climate change debate.

The most outrageous comment of the week came from Ken Storey, a visiting assistant professor of sociology at the University of Tampa. Storey suggested on Twitter that Harvey striking Texas was karma for the state’s support for President Trump in the 2016 Presidential election, saying “I don’t believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas.  Hopefully this will help them realize that the GOP doesn’t care about them.”  What a low blow.  No decent human being should wish the pain and suffering associated with a major storm on anybody.  The University of Tampa responded by promptly firing Storey.  It looks like karma got the best of him as well.  Considering the overwhelming left-wing bias that has come to define Academia, many other university professors probably agreed with Storey’s statement.   If I had ever had the opportunity to appear on “The O’Reilly Factor”, I would certainly have picked Professor Storey as this week’s Pinhead of the Week.

The Washington Post came out with an article called “Analysis: How Many Votes Could Harvey Cost Trump in Texas?”  It’s hard to believe that these are the same people who think that the country should unite in the wake of a tragedy such as a natural disaster.  The President tried to unite the country in the wake of Harvey, saying “We are all one American family” and telling the people of Texas and Louisiana that “We are 100 percent with you.”   That did not stop the media from complaining that he did not show enough sympathy to the victims of Mother Nature’s wrath.  Something tells me that if he actually did hug victims, the media would accuse him of sexual assault.  The President has actually announced that he will donate $1 million of his own money to help with the relief efforts.  I would have loved to see the jaw-dropping that took place in all of America’s newsrooms when that news first broke.  Mr. and Mrs. Trump plan to make another visit to Texas and Louisiana this weekend.  I wonder if he will actually manage to meet all of the media’s expectations this time. That seems like an impossible task.  To quote Taylor Swift, “Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.”  To quote Donald Trump Jr, “There is no right answer/response only a moving goal line that can never be reached.”

The satirical French publication Charlie Hebdo sparked widespread outrage when it came out with a magazine cover showing submerging limbs saluting flags with Swastikas on them, effectively depicting Harvey’s victims as neo-Nazis. The image was accompanied by the following statement, translated into English: “God exists.  He drowned all the neo-Nazis of Texas.” You would think that Charlie Hebdo would show a bit more sympathy considering the fact that it recently went through a tragedy of its own when radical Islamic terrorists opened fire at its headquarters in retaliation for the publication’s “blasphemous” depiction of the Prophet Muhammad, killing twelve and injuring eleven others.  Shortly after the attack occurred, the phrase “Je Suis Charlie”, French for “I am Charlie”, became a rallying cry for international solidarity.  Unfortunately, Charlie Hebdo appears unwilling to return the favor as its allies in the United States endure a tragedy.

The mainstream media and its liberal allies have absolutely no interest in uniting the country.  Uniting the country would distract them from carrying out what they see as their most important duties: telling people what to think and destroying the Trump Presidency by any means necessary.  Those looking for a uniting and inspirational message need look no further than this ad from Wal-Mart, featuring pictures of Americans helping each other while the song “Lean on Me” plays in the background.  In this particular ad, Wal-Mart promises to donate $2 for every $1 donated to the American Red Cross between August 31 and September 6.  Click here to read more about the philanthropic partnership between Wal-Mart and the American Red Cross and/or make a donation to the ongoing relief efforts.  The generosity of businesses like Wal-Mart will help accelerate the rebuilding efforts of Texans and Louisianans impacted by the storm.  These rebuilding efforts should begin very soon as Texans return to their homes in the wake of the receding floodwaters.  While the media and the left will do their best to make Americans hate their country, the generosity of those helping the victims of Tropical Storm Harvey should make everyone want to use the hashtag #ProudAmerican.
