Happy Victory Day!

Today marks the 72 nd anniversary of the allied powers’ victory over Japan in World War II; effectively bringing the war to an end.   On August 14, 1945, just five days after the dropping of the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki , Japan agreed to the Potsdam Declaration; which called for the unconditional surrender of Japan .   Believe it or not, Rhode Island is the only state in the union that celebrates this as a holiday. Rhode Islanders celebrate Victory Day on the second Monday of August. Victory over Japan Day used to be a Federal Holiday but The United States government stopped recognizing it in 1975 in light of the good relations that had developed between the US and the island nation.   The United States does not celebrate Victory in Europe Day, when Nazi Germany surrendered its armed forces.                 While most people associate World War II with fascist dictatorships in Europe, Japan was an eq...

The Left's Unhealthy Obsession with Diversity

It seems as if liberals have developed an unhealthy obsession with diversity.   If The Left was a male and Diversity was a female, Diversity would have filed a restraining order against The Left a long time ago.   Just look at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.   He made sure that his cabinet consisted of an equal balance of men and women.   This comes off as a little extreme.   Shouldn’t it be the ultimate goal to fill the cabinet with the most qualified people, regardless of their gender?   Has the idea of meritocracy gone the way of the dinosaurs?             The left has little respect for diversity of opinion.   In fact, they do everything they can to push for ideological uniformity.   Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk correctly pointed out that “College has become a place where they want everyone to look different, but think the same.”   Just ask Bret Weinstein, a self-described liber...

Make America Safe Again: Abolish Sanctuary Cities

A showdown looms between the City of Chicago and the United States Department of Justice.   Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has indicated that he will file a lawsuit against the Justice Department for threatening to withhold federal funds from the Windy City and other sanctuary cities if they do not abandon their sanctuary city policies.   In the past, the city has used the federal funds, provided by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, to purchase law enforcement equipment.   The Trump Administration has made cracking down on sanctuary cities a top priority.   Miami is the only notable large city that has abolished its sanctuary policy in the wake of threats from the Trump DOJ to defund them.   All others remain defiant.   You can check out this list of all the sanctuary cities and counties across the nation, compiled by the Center for Immigration Studies.                Sar...

The War on Conservative Media

Liberals enjoy a near monopoly in the television media.   They control the cable news networks of MSNBC and CNN as well as the three major news networks (ABC, CBS and NBC).   Fox News is the one cable news channel that still gives conservatives a voice.   It’s no wonder liberals are so hell-bent on shutting it down.     The liberals claimed a huge victory earlier this year after they forced the ouster of Bill O’Reilly from Fox News.   O’Reilly had hosted his enormously popular TV program “The O’Reilly Factor” for more than two decades.   Left wing activists successfully convinced some of his advertisers to jump ship after a New York Times article reported of his multi-million dollar settlements with women who accused him of sexual harassment or verbal abuse .   The network decided to pull the plug while O’Reilly was on vacation; renaming the show “The Factor” and removing all references to O’Reilly. The last episode of “The Factor”, hoste...

Contest: Who is the Media's Favorite Republican?

Every year at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a straw poll is conducted to measure which potential Republican presidential candidates generate the most enthusiasm from grassroots conservatives.   Imagine if the mainstream media had a straw poll to determine which Republican they liked best.   Perhaps they could conduct the poll at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.   Or maybe they could create their own political conference and call it the Mainstream Media Political Action Conference (MSMPAC).   After all, the mainstream media is nothing short of a political action committee for the Democrats masquerading as objective journalism.   The results of their straw poll would probably look quite different from the results of the average CPAC straw poll.   There are quite a few contenders, especially in the age of Trump.   In general, the media likes RINOs and Never Trumpers.   The media has a point system for rating Republican...

When the Nuclear Option is the Only Option

In the wake of the Senate’s failure to repeal Obamacare, President Trump has proposed that the Senate change the rules to abolish the filibuster and allow all legislative initiatives to pass with a simple majority.    President Trump hopes that abolishing the filibuster will allow the Republicans to pass a more comprehensive bill that will allow people to purchase insurance across state lines.   As long as the filibuster remains in existence, 60 votes would be required to pass such a bill.   Considering the fact that nearly all Democrats have united to destroy the Trump Presidency and protect Obamacare, amassing 60 votes for any bill that would repeal part or all of Obamacare is a pipe dream.   That’s why Senate Republicans have tried to pass a series of lackluster repeal bills using the budget reconciliation process, which only requires a simple majority.    The filibuster has already been abolished for all judicial nominations. Former Senate Majo...

What a Week: Constructive Criticism for Congressional Republicans and President Trump

Last week was quite a roller coaster ride for the Trump Administration; with many ups and downs.   Those who rely on the mainstream media for all their news probably heard exclusively about the downs.   The highlights (and lowlights) of this past week can teach many lessons about what steps the Trump administration as well as Congress can take in order to more effectively implement their conservative, America first agenda.            Let’s start off with the lowlights.   Senate Republicans overpromised and under-delivered on health care.   After seven years of promising to repeal and replace Obamacare, the Republicans could not manage to put together 50 votes for any of the proposals brought forward.   It looks like they are going to abandon their effort to repeal and replace Obamacare and move on to other initiatives such as tax reform.   I sure hope those efforts yield more success.   Further legislative f...

Don't Trust the B in District 23

One year after she resigned as Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is back in the news; well, depending on who you watch.   While she no longer runs the Democratic National Committee, she still represents Florida ’s 23 rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Wasserman Schultz received the wrath of Bernie Sanders supporters when leaked DNC e-mails showed that she had done everything in her power to derail Sanders’ insurgent candidacy and ensure that Hillary Clinton would win the Democratic nomination for President.   I guess you could say she gave Sanders the back of her hand . It should come as no surprise that Sanders endorsed her primary challenger Tim Canova in last year’s election.   Canova has already announced that he plans to challenge Wasserman Schultz again next year.   Tom Perez, President Obama’s profane former Labor Secretary, has replaced Wasserman Schultz as DNC chair.   ...
